CANON CHARACTER INFORMATION

Character Name: Yuuri Katsuki
Canon: Yuri!!! On Ice
Backstory: http://yurionice.wikia.com/wiki/Yuuri_Katsuki
Personality: The very first thing most people notice about Yuuri is, unfortunately, his anxiety and lack of self-esteem. He's a ball of nerves, constantly tense and wary unless he's around his family. He chose to pursue a very public sport and yet he hates the pressure of being under everyone's scrutiny. Enough pressure makes him fold quickly, especially pressure he puts on himself so as not to disappoint his loved ones. He will go cold and aloof in his attempts to distance himself from strangers and his peers, simply to hide his terror over failing. Yuuri allows any mistakes to dog his steps through life, even down to allowing flubbed jumps in his routines to ruin the rest of his performance. This is something figure skaters and other performers need to stop themselves from doing in order to succeed, but even with Yuuri's experience he struggles with it due to his mental issues. To Yuuri, all of his mistakes are bad reflections on his shortcomings and no one else's. When Victor offers to take responsibility for his potential failure in China, Yuuri breaks down in tears and yells that his mistakes have nothing to do with Victor's ability as a coach. Yuuri refuses to let his idol be sullied by what he sees as nothing more than his own lack of talent. He is easily embarrassed and used to living with the consequences of any events that mortify him, rather than letting those close to him suffer the effects (even though such a situation is usually solely in his head).

When he isn't fighting his anxiety, Yuuri is a genuinely warm, kind, and soft-hearted person. His emotional fragility allows him a unique view of others' pain, such as his ability to read the sorrow and longing in Victor's performance of Stammi Vicino. He's the kind of person who would make friends easily if not for his natural inclination toward introversion, though he is fiercely devoted to the friends he does have. Those close friends are as good as blood family to him, and people such as Phichit and Yuko know that he will support them even when his own life is falling apart. He cheers for his best friend at competitions, despite knowing they're competing for a place in the Grand Prix Finals, and after Victor scolds him out of his frosty aloofness at his qualifier he even genuinely cheers for Minami. There's no scorn for his competitors, no brash cockiness like Yurio or JJ, only admiration held at bay sometimes by his own fears of inadequacy.

Despite his "glass heart" and warm personality, Yuuri does have a sarcastic, sassy streak when not at competitions. Though he was quickly cowed by Yurio after the disaster at the Sochi GPF, that was likely colored by his already shattered composure due to his failure. In Hasetsu, when there's no immediate skating competition looming over his head, Yuuri smirks at Yurio when he realizes the younger skater is mostly loud bluster (even with that vicious kick and face-stomping combo!). After Yurio first shows up, Yuuri thinks to himself that the boy is underestimating him, a rare moment of almost outright cockiness that could be one of his coping mechanisms. He also suggests that Yurio should leave if he doesn't like the set-up of the onsen, likely out of a sense of stung pride in his parents' business/his childhood home and Yurio's scorn toward the place.

Yuuri can also be incredibly stubborn. Aside from being ready to retire after Sochi, once he has Victor's attention and is working toward redeeming himself in the new season, Yuuri slogs through incredibly difficult bouts of depression and self-doubt. He works himself practically to the bone, practicing for long hours, likely well past the point of pain. He insists on his lack of natural talent, unlike what he perceives to be Victor's strength, but compensates for it by having far more dedication than many of the other skaters. It helps that skating and ballet are his refuge from his own demons, providing him with plenty of practice time, but escapism isn't his only motivation for how much he works on improving.

Though Yuuri is usually reserved, he can be prone to bouts of spontaneous over-exuberance or flashes of temper. His emotions are something of a roller coaster, flipping from one extreme to another in the span of a few minutes when he is under duress. When talking about something that has deep meaning to him-- most clearly seen during his press conference about his current season's theme of love-- he will gush his true feelings without realizing how excited he is. Though this often cycles back into embarrassment once he burns out the initial rush of emotion, it's a glimpse into who Yuuri really is beneath the fear and doubt.

AU INFORMATION

AU Character Name: Yuuri Katsuki
AU Backstory: Yuuri moved to LA from Japan when he was four due to his father's job. He was always a shy, quiet boy, but the language barrier made things even more difficult for him. His parents encouraged him to find a social activity that would help him make friends and stay in shape. After a string of different attempts (karate, cycling, gymnastics... ballet came close!), Yuuri fell in love with ice skating. While he started out with basic "circling the pond" while more extroverted kids chattered at him, at the age of six he tried some simple figure skating moves he saw online. From that, he's hooked, and when his parents saw how alive and happy he was, they found him a beginner level coach. By the time he turned fourteen, Yuuri was skating in the US Juniors division as their star.

Moving up to the Senior division at sixteen, Yuuri continued to rise in popularity due to his grace and stamina on the ice. Talk that he was a sure thing for the Olympics two years later spread like wildfire, but a knee injury sidelined the young star. An Olympic gold medal four years later at twenty-two was an attainable dream for the young man, but sadly it would still remain only a dream: a rival in the Senior division wanted the spot that was all but guaranteed to Yuuri, and as his age meant this Olympics was his only chance, the other skater set a plan into motion. One night after leaving practice, Yuuri was mugged and beaten, his previously injured knee bearing the brunt of the attack. Despite extensive medical intervention and therapy, Yuuri's knee would never be able to withstand the quad jumps that men's figure skating demanded. Though he was grateful he could still skate, the knowledge that he'd been robbed of a possible Olympic medal burned in his heart... especially as he was forced to watch his rival take his place on the team and win gold.

With his rival's smugness over the win and the strangely specific targeting of his bad knee, Yuuri began to wonder if the attack had been deliberate. The more he looked into the matter, the more suspicious he became, but he was never able to gather concrete evidence that his rival had ordered the attack. And so the bitterness seethed in his heart, but he never complained out loud to his family and friends, burying his pain deep.
AU Personality Deviation: Due to growing up in LA, Yuuri is more talkative and assertive than he is in canon. Though he still tends toward introversion and still suffers occasional panic attacks, he is better equipped to deal with social pressure, much like he is at the end of the first season of the show. However his primary personality deviation is a sense of bitterness that pervades much of his interactions with people who are (in his perception) happier than he is. Depending on the person and their attitude, the expression of this bitterness can range from quiet aloofness to outright cold hostility. The latter is always the default by which he will treat people he sees as cheaters. Yuuri has no tolerance for those who step on others to get ahead and will actively (and often recklessly) call those kinds of people out.
Species: Human
Class: Infiltrator
Arcana: Moon
Persona: Starter Persona: Kōri no Kage A shadowy male figure with a face that is featureless save for glowing white eyes, clad in Yuuri's Eros costume and with a blood-red ice shard impaled through the left knee. This represents the season-ending injury sustained in the attack suffered at the hands of a rival skater and Yuuri's bitterness over that lost season. Starting skills include: Bufula, Myriad Slashes, Evil Touch, Sukukaja. Resists Ice, Weak to Fire
Final Persona: Seidai Myōjin A glowing male figure clad in gold and silver ribbons, skating on blades of crystal and leaving trails of blue-white light in his wake. Skills include: Bufudyne, Mabufula, Energy Shower, Masukukaja, Null Fire.
Social Link Persona: C: Kaguya, B: Alraune, A: Dionysus
Weapon Type: Boot knives, snowflake shuriken
Codename: Frost
Form of Rebellion: A black version of his Yuri On Ice free skate outfit with a dark blue undershirt. The sequined design on the back has become a blue and silver bladed snowflake (the six arms are sharp and look like spearheads). Mid-calf Cuban heel black boots (with toe-triggered switchblades in the front). Mask is a dull silver domino-style with slightly winged upper corners, snowflake-shaped cutouts from the upper right corner, across the bridge of the nose, to just below the inner part of the left side of the mask. Larger sapphire gemstone snowflake attached to just below the upper left corner of the mask.
RP Sample:

0: The Fool asks - What is the most life-changing event you have experienced? The first time my parents took me ice skating. That's how I made friends, kept in shape, and learned to really love something. I lived for skating. It was how I de-stressed, how I expressed myself. It shaped everything I am and everything I've done. Even the attack came from that first day on the ice, if I'd never started, I wouldn't have been targeted.
II: The Priestess asks - What do you consider to be an undeniable truth? That most people, even the kindest and friendliest people, can be selfish. Maybe the nice ones won't step on you to get what they want, but they'll still struggle for their goals even if it means they have to leave other people in their wake. I'm not exempt from that, I know I'm selfish too. It's why missing my second Olympics hurt so much, and why I want the one responsible to pay.
V: The Hierophant asks - What rules do you feel are sacred? What rules do you feel are meant to be broken? Don't cheat. If you want something, you need to come by it honestly. If you cheat, it cheapens the reward and dishonors the people you supposedly surpassed. Don't do anything you wouldn't want done to you. Your happiness isn't more important than anyone else's. Be kind. You don't know what the person you're mocking has been through. I guess... everything else is flexible, depending on the situation? Most of the time, the details matter one way or another.
IX: The Hermit asks - What do you do when given the grace of solitude? I tend to brood, unfortunately. I spend too much time locked in my own head, thinking about what happened to me, what I could've done differently. It's not something I intend to do, it just happens. So I try to counter it by reading, listening to music, or dancing. Sometimes I skate, but if my knee is really painful that day it only makes me feel more miserable. I don't like the reminder of what happened.
X: The Fortune asks - Do you believe in Destiny? Why, or why not? Well, if it was Destiny that my career would be cut short because someone else was selfish? That I'd frequently be in pain if I pushed my body too hard, and I'm only 24? That would... really make me mad. What's the point in free will if everything is predestined? So no, I don't believe in it, because then it makes life pretty futile.
XIV: The Temperance asks - What do you need to feel whole and why? Before, it was my family and skating. Without skating, my family is even more important to me than ever before. They support me without coddling or pitying me, helping me stay busy and encouraging me or giving me space on my bad days. Mom especially tries not to let me dwell. I don't know what I'd do without my parents. If I didn't have them for the months after I was attacked....
XVI: The Tower asks - What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you? The attack right before the Olympics. To work so hard my whole life, only to have my chance taken from me... when I missed the first Olympics due to an injury from a bad landing, that was all on me. But this was something malicious, something that happened because one person was selfish and couldn't stand the thought that I'd earned an amazing opportunity. Not only did they rob me of that, I'll never be able to skate the way I used to.
XVIII: The Moon asks - What do you most fear in this world and why? I thought I'd be afraid of not being able to skate ever again, but now that it's happened, that I'll never be able to compete professionally again, I guess my worst fear is losing my parents. I don't want to be completely alone in the world. I have a few friends, but no one I'm super close to. When Mom and Dad are gone, I won't really have anyone.
XX: The Judgement asks - What is the hardest thing in your life you have had to accept and why? Accepting that my knee will never be strong enough for the kind of jumps a professional figure skater does in competition. Skating was my life. Knowing that the person responsible for my injury got away with it is bad enough, but if I could've recovered most of my strength and stability and kept competing, I could've lived with that.
XXI: The World asks - What do you hope to have achieved when you reach the end of your life's journey? I honestly don't know anymore. I have trouble trusting people and opening up to them, so I'll probably be alone even though the thought of it scares me. I guess I'll find a job and try to disappear into obscurity? I'm tired of being recognized as "that skater who was assaulted, the poor thing." I... I want to be happy, but I think I've forgotten how it feels.

Name: Yuuri Katsuki
Canon: Yuri!!! On Ice
Assumed Canon Point: Just before going out for his Eros routine during Onsen On Ice
True Canon Point: End of season 1

Memories: 1) Winning Onsen On Ice and keeping Victor as his coach. 2) Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu Championship, interactions with Minami. 3) Performing Eros at Cup of China. 4) Nervous breakdown in the parking garage before Cup of China free skate. 5) Performing Eros at Cup of China, adding the quad flip at the end, Yuuri and Victor's first kiss on the ice. 6) Performing Eros at Rostelecom, Makkachin critical, Victor leaving for Japan. 7) Stumbling on Yuri On Ice at Rostelecom, sharing katsudon pirozhki with Yurio, reunion with Victor at the airport. 8) Engagement in Barcelona, dinner with other skaters. 9) Stiff and unemotional performance of Eros at the Grand Prix, watching Yurio beat Victor's short program record. 10) Flawless record-breaking performance of Yuri On Ice, silver medal, Stammi Vicino duetto exhibition, moving to St. Petersburg with Victor.

Possessions: 1) His ice skates - unembellished but custom skates with hard guards over the blades for walking on normal floors
2) Silver medal from Cup of China - the winner of this might've only placed second, but they're not their beloved's silver medal
3) Silver medal from Grand Prix - from last place to second is a huge improvement, but even winning couldn't be better than true love!
4) Makkachin tissue box - this soft pal is loaded with quality tissues for tears, snot, and whatever else you need tissues for (nobody will judge you)
5) Eros costume - this sexy black outfit with silver crystal accents, mesh panels, and a red-lined half-skirt blurs the lines between male and female
6) Yuri On Ice costume - a fitted indigo jacket with a large mesh back panel and sparkling embellishments, a shimmering purple undershirt, and black slacks. Showcases the beauty of a soft, wounded heart that's slowly healing.
7) Stammi Vicino "Duetto" costume - this shimmering blue and black costume with silver accents looks so much like a costume from a famous skating idol, but the colors are all wrong....

Physiology: Normal human, but hooo boy he gains weight easily. The food court is gonna be murder on him. XD

Motives: Yuuri is soft-hearted and gentle, probably wouldn't hurt a fly, but threaten his family or Victor? In the heat of the moment he just might find the drive to take the life of another person. Not to say he wouldn't be wracked with guilt and shame afterwards, but fear would also likely keep him from confessing. If he hasn't bonded with anyone else (making friends isn't easy to do considering his introversion and anxiety), keeping quiet and letting the rest of the group take the fall for his escape is pretty much a given.

Sample: [Waking up in a mall of all places isn't the weirdest thing Yuuri Katsuki has done, but those kinds of things usually happen after a night of heavy drinking. With Onsen On Ice looming, he hadn't touched a drop of alcohol in days. In fact, he remembers the feeling of Victor's borrowed costume clinging to his body, the bright lights on the Ice Castle rink contrasting the shadows, the fading roar of cheers for Yuri Plisetsky's routine right before he woke up here in this empty place.

No, the last thing he remembers is throwing his arms around Victor and trying not to think of how the scent of the man's cologne calmed something in him.

"You'll watch, won't you?"

And now he's here in this empty, seemingly abandoned mall-- without the ice, without the costume, without Victor-- wearing his warm-up gear and sneakers and....

A golden ring on his right hand?]

What the--?

[He stares at the shining thing as if not only it but his entire hand actually belong to someone else. It looks too much like a wedding band but he's not married or engaged or anything what in the world is this?! Breathing hard, he stumbles to a bench and sits down heavily without taking his eyes off the gleam of gold. Was going to Onsen On Ice a dream, or did he fail miserably (as expected feared) and get so blitzed on shochu or sake afterwards that he forgot his (probably dismal) performance? Did he get so incredibly wasted that he did something monumentally stupid? Can people get quickie marriages in Japan like they do in Las Vegas? Did he fly to Vegas and marry some stranger? Did Phichit join him, get drunk, and now they're married?!

About this time, he leans forward and nearly puts his head between his knees as he tries not to hyperventilate. His vision swims and darkens. Where are his parents? Where is Victor?]

Killer or Victim Consideration: Yuuri is most likely the type to be a victim. Though physically fit (at least for now!), he's a performer rather than a fighter. There's no indication he knows any sort of self-defense and he's not the type to normally carry a weapon. However, in the case of extreme emotional turmoil in which loved ones are threatened, he could very well be capable of spontaneous violence or even unplanned murder.

First Week Consideration: Naaaah, I wanna see if the poor guy can hang on for a while. (Already did the early launch death thing last round. XD)

Fabricator Consideration: Again, if his family or loved ones are at stake, Yuuri just might do dirty deeds for the higher powers running the show. That would be his one and only motivation for becoming a mole. With his often meek personality he might be an ideal mole-- the last person some might suspect-- and thus someone that perhaps their captors might approach...?
